Editorial Policy

The Record & Rebuttal publishes explanatory journalism about court reporting, legal transcripts, and access to the language of law. This policy describes how that work is produced and how errors are handled.

Independence. The publication is editorially independent. It is not owned or operated by a court, agency, professional association, reporting firm, or technology vendor, and it does not present itself as speaking for any of them. Articles do not endorse products or services.

Sourcing. Explanations of law, procedure, and technology are based on published and generally available material, such as statutes, court rules, style guides, professional standards, and public documentation. Where practice varies, the policy is to say so and to name the jurisdiction rather than to generalize. The publication does not report on live cases and does not offer legal advice. It does not claim first hand testing of equipment, software, or methods.

Accuracy and correction. Articles are reviewed for factual claims before publication. When a specific claim is shown to be wrong, it is corrected promptly, and the correction is noted on the page. Clarifications are used when wording is accurate but misleading. Correction requests should identify the article, quote the passage, and include a citable source, as described on the contact page.

Attribution and quotations. Quotations are drawn from public documents and are presented with enough context to be understood. The publication does not invent sources, quotations, people, or credentials, and it does not publish unnamed sources attributed to unnamed institutions.

Images. Images on this site are illustrative and generated with artificial intelligence. They are not photographs of real people, places, events, or documents. They are used to signal a subject, not to record one, and they carry no evidentiary value. No image on this site should be treated as a depiction of an actual proceeding or record.

Advertising and sponsored content. Any future sponsored or paid content would be labeled as such and kept separate from editorial material. Editorial decisions are not made to favor a sponsor.
